Interlagos and San Luis
In both races in South America we were running in the top 10 comfortably and we should have certainly scored more points than just a sixth place in Interlagos. The FIA GT1 World Championship is very competitive with mostly the whole field of 23 cars covered in about 1 second. So even a small mistake can instantly push you out of a good position. So it happened in Interlagos when we were running in second position.
At the pitstop not everything went smooth and we lost a few seconds, which was my fault this time! But during those few seconds a few cars passed us in the pitlane and we had to settle for sixth. In Argentina we were also in a good position for a podium finish, but a mistake in the main race dropped us back down the order. Having said that, making mistakes in Argentina is really easy. The circuit is the most fantastic I have ever driven on, but also the most dangerous. There is a lot of dust around and after a lot of cars have driven around, the main line is becoming better and better. That in general is a good thing, but the only problem is that when you put the car just a few centimeters off that racing line, you will crash instantly, as we have seen happening during the San Luis race. So overtaking is not easy at all.
So looking back on our season in general, it is clear that the Nissan GTR was competitive at almost all circuits, some less, some more. A win and lots of podium positions were achieved by the GTR's and it is just a shame that it was not the same car all the time, as this would have resulted in a obviously much better Championship Position than our P9.
Even though "If's and "When's" don't count in racing, it is obvious that we had the possibility to score higher at most races. But it needs also to be said that this was the first year for Sumo Power GT and considering that our performance has been outstanding. There was constant improvement in the team and the car, so from that point of view it was a successful year for us. To win this Championship one needs to be almost mistake free the whole season, which is a very difficult feat.
But The World Champion Vitaphone Team has achieved just that. So our congratulations go out to them. They kept out of trouble and put in a very solid and consistent performance.
I'm sure that it will Sumo Power GT not long to achieve the same level of competitiveness and all the people there are super motivated and are working very hard to get to the top. So I want to say a big thank you to all of you guys!
Also I know that many fans followed us from Japan as well and Ara and myself would have loved to race in front of you in Fuji or Suzuka. I hope that maybe one day that is possible...

インテルラゴス と サン・ルイス
南アメリカの両レースでトップ10をゆったりと走っていましたが、インテルラゴスでの6位に甘んじることなくもっと確実にポイントを稼いでおくべきでした。FIA GT1世界選手権はほとんど全てのフィールドで約1秒を23台で激しく競うものです。だから、ほんの小さなミスで即座に良いポジションから外れてしまうのです。そしてそれがインテルラゴスで2位を走っていた僕たちにも起こってしまったのでした。
ピットストップでは全てがスムースに行かず、数秒ロスしてしまいましたが、今回は僕のミスでした！しかし、この数秒間に数台がピットレーンを通過し、僕たちは6位を受け入れなければなりませんでした。アルゼンチンでもポディウムフィニッシュを狙う良い位置にいましたが、メインレースでのミスが順位を後退に招きました。言った通り、アルゼンチンでミスを犯すのはとても簡単です。このサーキットは今まで僕が走ったなかでも一番ファンタスティックですが、それと同時に一番危険でもあります。多くのダストがあちこちにあり、多くの車が走った後にメインラインは徐々に良くなっていくのです。これは一般的には良い事なのですが、唯一の問題は、ほんの数センチでもレーシングラインからずれてしまうと、サン・ルイスで起こったように即座にクラッシュしてしまうのです。なので、追い越しをかけるのはまったく簡単ではないのです。
さて、概して僕たちのシーズンを振り返ってみると、Nissan GTRが全サーキットで、サーキット毎の多少の差はあったとしても、競争力があったのは明らかです。勝利と幾度かの表彰台はGTRによって達成されましたが、いつも同じクルマではなかったことは残念です。いつも同じであれば世界選手権順位9位よりも確実にもっと良い成績を取れただろうと思います。
「もし」や「いつ」はレースでは計算に入れませんので、僕たちが多くのレースでハイスコアを獲ることは可能であったことは明白です。しかし、Sumo Power GTにとって初めての年であったことと僕たちのパフォーマンスは傑出していたと考えられるということは言えると思います。チームとクルマの不断の改良があり、その観点からすると僕たちにとって成功した年であったと言えます。選手権1位を勝ち取るのはシーズン中ミスをしないということを要するとてつもなく難しい偉業なのです。
しかし世界チャンピオンのVitaphoneチームはそれを手に入れました。僕たちは彼らに称賛を贈りたいと思います。彼らはトラブルを避け、とても堅く一貫したパフォーマンスをしました。
僕はSumo Power GTが同じレベルの競争力を得るのはそんなに長くかからないと確信していますし、仲間全員が頂点に上り詰めるために高いモチベーションで一生懸命働いているのです。なので僕は大いなる感謝をそのすべての人に言いたいです。
また、日本からも同様に多くのファンがフォローしてくれたことは分かっています。荒と僕自身は富士や鈴鹿で皆さんの前でレースをしたいと切望しています。いつか叶う日が来ると願っています…。
