I'm in Japan now following Kimiko's efforts at the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tournament in Tokyo. Yesterday she beat Sharapova in a 3 set thriller and that was a nice birthday present that she made herself just a day before her 40th birthday! It is amazing to see her move around the court at incredible speeds and Kimiko is clearly a living proof that aging doesn't necessarily mean deteriorating!

But as easy as it looks from the outside, there is a lot and lot of hard work behind this, in addition to a very healthy life style. I'm looking forward to go to the Ariake Stadium again today to watch her second round match against Hantuchova. Kimiko has certainly a chance there, as she has won their previous encounter a year ago in Korea...if she has recovered from yesterday of course.

As for myself, I'm looking forward to the Motorsport Japan event in Odaiba on Saturday and hope that many Nissan fans are coming there, since I cannot meet them during the season outside Japan.

Also I want to review the race in Algarve last week as I have not written anything about it. We had a good weekend overall. Winning the QF race was special for us and a lot of credit goes to the team, since we have won that race mainly because of the incredible speed at the pitstop. At the main race, we were leading, which was great, but a faulty impact range cost us 16 seconds in the pits and we dropped back to P6 or P7. I was then able to catch up to P4, but more than that was not possible. So overall we collected good points and recovered a few positions in the championship (P7 now), but of course we would have loved to win that race too. Nevertheless we could show how good the Nissan GTR really is and we are very optimistic for the remaining 3 races.

The positive thing about finishing in P4 is that we now only have to carry an additional 10kg of success ballast instead of 50KG! That will give us another shot at victory in Spain next month.

日本への旅行

東京での東レ・パン・パシフィック・オープン・トーナメントでのKimikoの奮闘を見守ろうと、今日本にいます。昨日は3セットの激闘の末Sharapova選手に勝ちました。40歳の誕生日の前日にまさに自らした素晴らしいプレゼントでした！信じられないスピードでコートを走りまわる彼女を見るのは驚くべきもので、Kimikoは加齢が衰えるということを必ずしも意味するわけではないということのとても良い見本です。

傍目には簡単なことのように見えますが、この陰には多くの本当に沢山のハードな練習があり、それに加えてとても健康的なライフスタイルを送っています。僕は今日また有明スタジアムにHantuchova選手との2回戦を観にいくのをとても楽しみにしています。コリアでの昨年の対戦では勝っているので、Kimikoには確実にチャンスがあります…もちろん昨日の試合から回復していればです。

僕のことを話すと、土曜日にお台場で開催されるモータースポーツジャパンのイベントを楽しみにしています。今シーズン中は日本には居らず皆さんに会えないので、多くの日産ファンが来場してくれることを願っています。

それから先週末のアルガルブでのレースについてまだ書いてないので、それについて見直したいと思います。全体的に見てよい週末でした。予選レースで優勝したのは僕たちにとって特別なもので、多くの点数がチームに入りました。そのレースで勝てたのもピットストップが信じられないくらいのスピードだったからが主な勝因です。メインレースではリードしていたのは素晴らしかったのですが、インパクトレンチの欠陥によりピットの中で足止めになり16秒かかってしまい、6位か7位まで後退してしまいました。それから僕は4位まで登りつめましたが、それ以上は無理でした。総括して、良いポイントを獲得し、この選手権ではいくつか順位をあげましたが（現在7位）、でももちろんこのレースでも優勝したかったです。でもNissan GTRが本当にどれだけ素晴らしいかを見せることができ、残りの3レースに対しては非常に楽観視しています。

4位でのフィニッシュについてポジティブな部分は、50kgものサクセスバラストの代わりに今度は10kgだけを載せればいいということです！これは来月スペインでの勝利へのまた新たな見込みをもたらしてくれるでしょう。
